What is AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps is a network of local, state, and national service programs that connects over 70,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet community needs in education, public safety, health and homeland security. AmeriCorps members serve more than 2,000 non-profits, public agencies, and community organizations across the country.

Youth AMERICORPS

The City of Davenport AmeriCorps Program has a unique opportunity for Davenport High School Students who are between the ages of 16 - 19. This program provides the benefits of being an AmeriCorps service member (i.e. earning educational awards to use for higher education, and being supplemented with a bi-weekly living stipend, all while helping the community) with career exploration opportunities. 40 Davenport High School students will be selected from the application pool to participate in this amazing service learning experience. The Davenport Youth AmeriCorps Program combines volunteerism, job skills and leadership experience into a unique summer program that begins on May 8th and ends on August 26th.

The 40 Youth AmeriCorps members will be placed at several different agencies within Davenport and will be directly supervised by an agency employee, who will then mentor and teach their members about the career paths and opportunities that interest the Youth AmeriCorps member. Each member will have the opportunity for a positive and unique experience, while gaining real work experience, mentors, and resume builders. While each member will have a unique experience, every member will be serving towards the same goal: To make the Davenport community a better place to live, work and serve in.

Why Davenport?

The City of Davenport program supports K-12 students by committing an AmeriCorps member's time to foster civic engagement, mentorship, academic and social supports. Since 2011, our members have directly contributed over 150,000 hours of volunteer service to the Davenport community. This program aims to decrease the high school drop-out rate, saving Davenport taxpayers over $292,000 per potential drop-out.
