What to Know - May 19 Council Cycle

May 18, 2021 - Several more street projects could be added to the calendar for the 2021 construction season. Council will consider the plans and specifications for the Johnson Avenue (Fairmount to Gayman) and West 54th Street (Davie to Howell) Reconstructions, as well as three roadways located within the Goose Creek Heights neighborhood. Also on the agenda this Council cycle is awarding the contract for the replacement of Marquette Street from West 12th Street to West 5th Street and West 12th Street from Marquette Street to west of Myrtle Street to CDMI Concrete Contractors of Port Byron, Illinois.

The much-anticipated replacement of the pedestrian bridge over Black Hawk Creek at Sunderbruch Park could begin soon as Council considers awarding the contract to General Constructors Inc of Bettendorf, Iowa.  The bridge will undergo stability improvements and pier repairs.

The required Public Hearing to amend the FY 2021 Operating and Capital Improvement Budgets will be held at the May 19 Committee of the Whole meeting. The Operating Budget is amended to incorporate new programs, budget changes in revenue estimates, budget gran funding, transfer funding between programs, close out completed capital projects, move unspent bond financing sources forward to the current year, adjust spending allocations for unanticipated costs, and adopt personnel changes. It is necessary to update the budget to include previously unanticipated revenue increases and decreases, cost increases, and the redistribution of funds. The Capital Budget is amended to close out completed projects, fund over-expenditures in capital projects, and transfer balances between projects.  In conjunction with the Public Hearing is a Resolution to amend the budgets which Council will also consider this cycle.
