Building Codes

The City of Davenport uses several nationally recognized codes related to building construction and utilities. Codes are adopted by ordinance and codified in Davenport City Code.

Codes codified in the Davenport City Code for building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems are as follows.

It is important to consult Davenport City Code in addition to recognized codes as local amendments to these codes may apply.

The Zoning Ordinance is a critical implementation tool of the City’s Comprehensive Plan, which is used to guide development and redevelopment in the City. The Zoning Ordinance itself contains specific rules for development while the companion Zoning Map lays out zoning “districts” that outline specific land uses, densities and design criteria for specific locations.

Changes to the Zoning Ordinance and map (rezonings) can only be accomplished through an open process by the Plan and Zoning Commission and City Council.

The Zoning Ordinance can be found under Section 17 of the Davenport City Code.

Davenport is currently updating the Zoning Ordnance to ensure the current and future needs of the City are met. Stay tuned for future updates on this important project.
