The Federal Railroad Administration has announced $7.8 million in grant funding awarded to the City of Davenport through the Railroad Crossing Elimination Grant Program for the design and construction of an overpass and elevated roadway on South Concord Street near West River Drive. The program provides funding for highway-rail or pathway-rail grade crossing improvement projects that focus on improving the safety and mobility of people and goods.

City staff is taking steps to address numerous issues including congestion, access points, and pedestrian safety at the intersection of Brady Street and 65th Street/Veterans Memorial Parkway, including applying for an Iowa DOT “Traffic Safety Improvement Program” grant for a traffic safety study. With Council approval, the grant would fund 100% of the cost of the traffic study, which is expected to be $80,000.

Council will consider the plans and specifications for the Johnson Avenue (Fairmount to Gayman) and West 54th Street (Davie to Howell) Reconstructions, as well as three roadways located within the Goose Creek Heights neighborhood. Also on the agenda this Council cycle is awarding the contract for the replacement of Marquette Street from West 12th Street to West 5th Street and West 12th Street from Marquette Street to west of Myrtle Street to CDMI Concrete Contractors of Port Byron, Illinois.
