Only in the Midwest, folks! Our partners at the National Weather Service have forecast snow, yes, snow! Watch for potentially slushy, slippery driving conditions now through Wednesday afternoon. Heavier snow rates are anticipated to fall through the early evening commute, taper off a bit, and then pick back up early Wednesday morning through the afternoon. Crews will respond if snow begins accumulating on our major roadways.

Drive with caution - there are spotty slick spots out there this morning. Crews are spot-salting main roads early this morning as needed and will be performing a mixed bag of activities throughout the day.
All residential roads have seen snow moved to the curb and have been made passable, with the exception of a few streets where vehicular parking did not support safe plowing operations. Some staff in smaller equipment will be out addressing those roads we were previously unable to address today.
Residents should not expect bare pavement on residential streets. Additional clearing to remove slush as it develops will not be done, as melting will continue into the week and resolve the issue naturally.
With potholes popping up all over, a portion of the team has now transitioned to filling potholes.

Crews will be pushing snow to the curb as a component of opening up storm drains today. Operators have been instructed to reduce speed to reduce windrow, but be mindful that windrow is often unavoidable.
Residential roads are in a variety of conditions as we survey the area. Property owners pushing snow into the street, parked vehicles that have now been moved, and operator error are among the issues faced. With the amount of melting that has occurred, today’s efforts are to continue to improve road conditions, but primarily focused on opening up those storm drains in the curb lines to prevent localized street flooding and other hazardous conditions.

From our partners at the National Weather Service, a mix of rain, freezing rain, sleet, and snow are possible through Thursday. This will make for interesting driving conditions on our major roads and residential streets and increase the chances of slips and falls on sidewalks and parking lots in the coming days. Take it slow when driving. Increase your following distance. Be especially mindful on parking lots and sidewalks. Take slow, short steps and walk on treated surfaces when possible. Crews will be clearing storm drains throughout the day and into the evening. Salt will be applied when conditions allow. Active rain/melting does not support salt application as it runs off.

The Snow Team was able to salt all residential roads throughout the day today. Crews will be in tonight to begin clearing off neighborhood storm drains, spot-clear hazardous conditions, and respond as needed to the potential of a wintery mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow overnight. Take it easy if you are out and about 6 p.m. this evening through the morning hours. Watch for slick driving conditions.

Drive slowly and with caution. The Snow Team has been actively treating Posted Snow Routes with salt after some freezing rain and drizzle came through earlier this morning. Crews made one round of clearing on all residential roads on Friday into Saturday and will be back in neighborhoods today, laying down salt with a pass in each direction. Overnight crews will be in neighborhoods clearing off storm drains to support run-off as melting will occur throughout the week. We will have active weather over the next few days; plans will be adjusted according to conditions.
The Snow Team was able to remove and haul away nearly all snow from the curb lanes Downtown, on the Hilltop, and in the East Village last night and will continue spot-clearing hazardous conditions in between salt applications and addressing other needs.

Snow Update 3:15 p.m. Saturday, January 20 | The Snow Team continues on residential roads and plans to finish snow hauling from the Downtown and Hilltop Campus areas starting at 9 p.m. Sunday, January 21, through 6 a.m. Monday, January 22. This work will not be done under a Snow Emergency; however, we encourage all residents and visitors to the Downtown to park for free on the City’s ramps from 5 p.m. Sunday, January 21, through 7 a.m. Monday, January 22. Parking off-street will allow crews to do a much more efficient and complete job. If you must park on-street in the Downtown, please use 3rd and 4th Streets as these streets were successfully addressed earlier in the week. Most work will be focused on north/south streets.
Outside of the downtown area, residents should be reminded crews continue plowing over the weekend and begin another round of clearing on residential streets starting Monday morning.

The Snow Team will continue to make a pass in each direction on residential roads to make them more passable through the weekend. Due to subzero temperatures over the weekend, bare pavement will not be possible.
On Monday, crews will return for another round of clearing when temperatures warm. During this round, crews will push material to the curb and clear covered storm drains. Please be aware that sidewalks and driveway approaches will be recovered during this clearing stage. While the team will make every effort to reduce windrows, windrows are unavoidable when moving snow from the road.

As predicted, more snow arrived last night. Be prepared for slick spots on Posted Snow Routes this morning. Crews are finishing up Posted Snow Routes and have begun clearing residential roads. Weather over the past two weeks has been a challenge for everyone, to say the least. Today, through the overnight, crews will be making a pass in each direction on residential streets to push new snow and some of the slushy stuff to the side. Crews will not be clearing to the curb, or to achieve bare pavement. This round is focused on making roads more drivable only.
Come Monday, temperatures begin warming. Crews will return for a round two clearing. During this round, crews will push material to the curb and clear covered storm drains. Please be aware that sidewalks and driveway approaches will be recovered during this clearing stage. While the team will make every effort to reduce windrow, windrow is an unavoidable consequence of moving snow from the road.
Please keep your vehicle off the road on Friday and Monday to avoid being plowed in and to support safe, efficient plowing operations.

More snow on the way?!?! Our partners at the National Weather Service tell us Davenport should expect to see 1 to 3” inches of the white fluffy stuff beginning early this evening. Davenport’s Snow Team is prepared and will clear Posted Snow Routes once the snow starts to fly. Be prepared for slick conditions when driving tonight. Be especially mindful that sub-zero temperatures and high winds are expected to continue through the weekend. Please keep vehicles off of Posted Snow Routes when you can to help crews clear snow safely and efficiently when snow arrives.
In other news, the team continues spot clearing of excessive windrows and hazardous conditions all over the city.

Crews were able to complete removal along 3rd and 4th Streets; however, unable to collect all snow piles from many of the north/south streets. With more snow on the way, crews will remove the remaining as time and conditions allow.

Here are a few updates as we head into the evening. A Snow Emergency for the Downtown and Hilltop Campus areas goes into effect at 9 p.m. Park for free in the ramps beginning at 5 p.m. today through 7 a.m. Thursday to avoid a ticket and tow.
Be aware a chance for up to one inch of snow remains in the forecast for tonight. If snow arrives, the snow removal and hauling plan will be modified to ensure plowing of Posted Snow Routes. Crews will return between snows to remove snow piles when they can.
The Police Department will also be out this week addressing vehicles previously ticketed and not moved. This could mean additional tickets or towing.

A 2nd Snow Emergency has been declared specific to the Downtown Davenport and the Hilltop Campus areas for pickup and hauling of snow from parking lanes. The Snow Emergency will be in effect at 9 p.m. Wednesday, January 17 through 6 a.m. Thursday, January 18. Cars parked on Posted Snow Routes may be ticketed and towed. Visitors and residents to the Downtown may park for free in any of the city's ramps beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, through 7 a.m. Thursday, January 18. During the day on Thursday, crews will be picking up and hauling existing, accessible piles in the Downtown and Hilltop Campus areas as they can. Thursday night's focus will be on removal and hauling in the Downtown; however, the Hilltop Campus area should be prepared for pickup and haul away to occur in that area also. The snow team will return to both locations on Friday to pick up any remaining accessible piles of snow.

The 25.5” of snow last week during two day-long events and current sub-zero temperatures will take some time to recover from. Look forward to warming temperatures and melting as temperatures improve next week. In the meantime, take it slow. Main routes across the city are in decent travel condition with spotty slick spots. Neighborhood roads are in passable condition for the most part. Watch for slippery spots when exiting onto main roads.

Requests regarding sidewalk and driveway windrow are discouraged unless you believe your driveway or sidewalk is not representative of other sidewalks and driveways on the street. Remember, 25.5 inches of snow has to go somewhere when removed from the road.
Residents should attempt to remove snow from sidewalks if they have not already done so. Sidewalk snow removal will be enforced where it is evident no attempt has been made.

Severe weather and rough road conditions have been the story of the day for several days now. We appreciate the community's patience as we continue to recover from the week's events. Going into the evening and Monday, here's what to expect:
- The snow team is committed to and will make all roads passable by 8 p.m. this evening. Expect driving conditions to remain slick on residential roads. Do not expect bare pavement or for conditions to improve significantly until temperatures improve and melting can begin. Drive slowly and/or according to the conditions of the street you are traveling.
- Monday's solid waste will occur as scheduled. Operations will be supported by larger equipment when needed to make it through the routes.
- Plowing operations after 8 p.m. this evening will be limited to emergency support as needed by police, fire, and EMS. And to address ongoing blowing and drifting issues in outlying areas to the north and west.
- On Tuesday, the crew will return during daytime hours to begin spot clearing where windrow and other conditions are creating significant visibility or other hazards, as temperatures allow.

The snow team is making progress on residential roads but does not expect to make it through all residential areas until later this evening. The team continues to face challenging conditions on the city's outskirts to the north and west. If you do not need to go out, please stay home. If you must go out, know that driving conditions are poor.
Here's what you need to know as we head into the day:
- If there is an emergency, plows will assist emergency vehicles to gain access.
- If multiple cars are stuck, residents can submit a request at www.davenportiowa.com/pwrs to call attention to the issue on their road; however, should be mindful that there are currently numerous calls of this nature and that locations like these present other difficulties.
- The team is coordinating with the Police Department and tow trucks as they are able in some locations. With a towing ban in place, these opportunities are limited and require coordination.
- The team will continue removing snow until it is no longer safe or significant equipment failure occurs due to the temperature's impacts on hydraulic systems. The team has experienced equipment issues as the temperatures have dropped; however, our Fleet Management team has been able to work quickly to get equipment back up and running.
Weathering this storm is a team effort, and that includes our residents. Please be patient. The crews are working as swiftly as they can to make roads passable.

Please be patient, folks; the snow team is doing everything possible to support travel across the city under challenging circumstances. The area has received over 21” of snow in the last four days, not to mention blowing and drifting from high winds and sub-zero temps. Know that moving that volume of snow off the roads for travel will unavoidably contribute to windrow along boulevards and driveways. Snow has to go somewhere once moved from the road for travel. Crews have been in and out of residential areas since earlier this morning. While there is potential for another ½” to 1” of snow before 5 p.m. today, crews are committed to making residential roads more passable. You can help us all weather the storm together by being patient, understanding all available resources are out there to help everyone, parking off-street when you are able, and staying home if you do not need to go out.

The theme for today: Please be Patient. Travel Conditions Across Eastern Iowa – Poor. Snow ended around midnight, dropping 13 to 14 inches of snow across the area on Friday. Blowing and drifting from high winds has added additional challenges with recovering roads, downed trees, and spotty power outages.
Here’s what you need to know as we head into the day:
- Whether you are on a Posted Snow Route or on a Residential Road – please keep your vehicle off the road when you can. This will help crews and keep your car from being plowed in.
- Crews will clear what they are able to from Posted Snow Routes and make a pass through residential areas all day. Bare pavement should not be expected.
- Travel is rough on all roads, especially in residential areas. Travel is currently not advised on the interstate.
- Temperatures only drop from here – ranging from -20 to -40 wind chill throughout the day. Salt will have little to no effectiveness at these temperatures. A wind chill advisory is in effect through January 16. Temperatures will begin to improve to -10 and 1 on Wednesday, January 17.
- There were several downed trees yesterday. Call 563.326.7923 to report downed trees in the roadway.
- Spotty power outages have also been reported. Call MidAmerican Energy at 888-427-5632 to report a power outage.

Travel is not advised across much of Eastern Iowa. If you must go out, expect hazardous travel conditions. Timing of snowfall end, total volume, and temperatures will present challenges for snow operations as we head into the overnight and Saturday morning.
Be reminded that a Blizzard Warning is in effect now through noon on Saturday. Temperatures are expected to drop quickly to -10 degrees with windchill by 8 a.m. Saturday, and -30 by 7 a.m. Sunday morning.
Crews will remain focused on keeping Posted Snow/Main Travel Routes open until the snow ends and they are sufficiently clear. Keep in mind that as temperatures fall, salt becomes less effective and ineffective at temperatures lower than -15 to -20 degrees with chlorides added. Watch for updates early Saturday morning.

Our partners at the National Weather Service tell us the area will see another 4 to 10” of snow around midnight tonight. Based on the forecast, a Snow Emergency has been declared effective 6 p.m., Thursday, January 11, through 6 p.m., Saturday, January 13. The 6 p.m. start time provides residents advance opportunity to move vehicles off Posted Snow Routes before snow arrives overnight. Enforcement of the parking prohibition will begin once the snow starts to fly. As an alternative to on-street parking in the Downtown, residents and visitors may park for free in any of the City’s parking ramps beginning at 5 p.m., Thursday, January 11, through 5 p.m., Sunday, January 14.
Hazardous driving conditions are possible. Be sure to exercise caution while you are out on Friday. Snow is forecast to fall all day, with a potential for blizzard-like conditions from high winds to develop late Friday into Saturday morning.

Crews finished plowing residential roads overnight. They are spot checking and clearing today in preparation for the next event.

In between residential roads, the snow team will respond as needed to a potential ½” of snow expected this evening. Bringing us to Thursday, when it sounds like we could be in for another round of 4 to 8 inches of snow, falling late Thursday night into all day Friday.
As a reminder, all plowing and salting activities are focused on Posted Snow Routes (higher volume/major travel routes and dangerous hills) before residential roads. The City does not have the resources to clear all 1,293 lane miles of roads simultaneously. Located within one to five blocks of residential roads, priority clearing of Posted Snow Routes promotes travel across the city, leaving only a short residential distance where travel may be more difficult.

In all, around 10.5” of snow fell in Davenport during Tuesday’s event. Crews have fully transitioned to residential roads and will continue clearing until complete later today. Please keep vehicles off residential streets throughout the day on Wednesday to help crews clear these roads safely and efficiently. Do not expect bare pavement, slick spots and ice packed areas is possible.
In new news, the area may see two more snow events now through Saturday. The first predicts approximately 1” of snow arriving this evening into Thursday morning. The second calls for more significant snowfall of 4 to 6 inches beginning Friday and lasting throughout the day. We will keep you informed of snow and response activities in the days ahead.
In the meantime, continue to use caution while driving, as slick spots are out there.

While air and pavement temperatures have been favorable today, things will turn less favorable overnight. Snow is expected to begin wrapping up around 7 p.m.; however, temperatures will start dropping, and winds will pick up, causing some blowing and drifting.
At this next stage in the storm, power outages and downed trees are possible. Remember to report downed trees to public works at 563.326.7923; report power outages to MidAmerican Energy at 800.799.4443.
On the upside, crews are now plowing and salting both residential roads and Posted Snow Routes. Focus will transition to all residential roads overnight and continue through Wednesday. Residents should not expect bare pavement on residential streets; residual slick spots and packed snow/ice is likely due to dropping temperatures.
The Snow Emergency will remain in effect through Wednesday. In addition to keeping cars off of Posted Snow Routes, we encourage all others to keep vehicles off of residential roads through Wednesday to help the team clear residential roads more efficiently and safely. Davenport’s parking ramps will remain free to residents and visitors of the downtown through 5 p.m. on Wednesday, January 10.

Things have been a bit slick and slushy out there this morning. So far, favorable air and pavement temperatures are helping crews stay on top of arriving snow. This may change as we head into the overnight when snow transitions from wet and heavy to light and fluffy, along with 20 to 40 mile and hour winds.
Here’s the mid-day rundown and a few service impact announcements:
- 4 to 6 inches of additional snow is expected. Blowing and drifting is expected later this evening and overnight. Crews will continue clearing Posted Snow Routes until the snow ends and the routes are clear curb to curb.

Forecasts have been revised back a little to 8 to 12” of snow. The approximately one+ inch of snow that fell overnight melted early and was quickly removed from Posted Snow Routes once the snow began to accumulate. Crews are prepared to respond to conditions as they arrive. While roads are in good travel condition now, expect driving conditions to diminish as this winter storm pushes its way through the area.
Here’s what you need to know as we head into the day.

Our partners at the National Weather Service have updated the forecast from 7 to 12” of snow to 11 to 15”, with a good level of confidence in ️8 to 10”+. The current Snow Emergency will remain in effect through Noon Wednesday, December 10. Please park off-street to help crews clear major roads/Posted Snow Routes, and to avoid being plowed in, a ticket and/or tow. This volume of snow will cause windrows as snow has to be moved from the road to support travel. Wet and heavy snow is expected early, transitioning to fluffy light snow late Tuesday with high winds (drifting). The event will present difficult driving conditions and chances for downed trees and power outages. As we head into Tuesday, here is what you need to know:
- Solid waste collection remains likely; notice will be made by 7 a.m. if canceled.
Information about CitiBus, the libraries, and park facilities will be released if closure is determined.
- Watch for other potential closings. Follow media and social media platforms. Consider calling ahead if you have plans or appointments.
- Plan to add time to your commute if you must be out and about. If you don’t have to go out, don’t be out.

Based on the forecast for 7 to 12” of snow, a Snow Emergency has been declared effective 6 p.m., Monday, January 8, through Noon, Wednesday, January 10. Parking is prohibited on Posted Snow Routes when a Snow Emergency is in effect. As an alternative to on-street parking in the Downtown, residents and visitors may park for free in any one of the City’s parking ramps beginning at 5 p.m., Monday, January 8, through 5 p.m., Wednesday January 10.
Here’s what you need to know as we head into the evening.
- This will be a prolonged event with two to three periods of intense snow. Be reminded, crews will continuously plow and salt Posted Snow Routes (major thoroughfares and hills) until clear before removing snow from residential roads. Arriving snow will dictate when we are able to clear neighborhood streets.
- Hazardous travel conditions are likely. Drive according to conditions. Slow down, increase your traveling distance, plan ahead and add time to your commute.
- Shoveling sidewalks early and often will lighten the load.
- We will provide updates on conditions and crew status throughout the event.

Our partners the National Weather Service tell us a winter storm watch will go into effect beginning Monday, January 8, from 6:00 p.m. through 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 10. Seven to 12” of snow is possible. This event is predicted to create hazardous travel conditions with two to three periods of higher-intensity snow and strong blowing winds. Be prepared for poor travel conditions and plan ahead if you will be out and about Monday into Wednesday. Watch for news on a potential Snow Emergency Declaration on Monday as the forecast continues to firm up.

Heads up! Our partners at the National Weather Service tell us things could get a little slick out there today. A snow system, bringing 1 to 3” of snow, is expected to arrive mid-to-late morning and last through the evening. Anticipate wet, slushy snow and slick spots. Our snow team is prepared to respond to arriving snow and encourage motorists to be prepared to slow down and increase their traveling distance. Crews were called in earlier this morning to respond to arriving snow. More snow is likely through noon. The team is monitoring conditions and prepared to respond as needed. Watch for slushy and slick conditions while out and about this morning.

Our partners at the National Weather Service tell us Davenport’s first accumulating snow of the season is expected to arrive later tonight, Saturday, November 25, and last through Sunday afternoon. One to three inches of snow is possible. Travel could be slick at times. Slow down and increase your following distance when snow arrives. Crews are prepared to respond as needed to arriving snow.

Winter is just around the corner, and Davenport is making preparations. Plow blades and spreaders are being installed, training is underway, and our salt supply has been replenished.
As part of winter preparation, the City encourages all residents and visitors to be prepared. This includes signing up for Snow Emergency Alerts. Signing up for alerts is the most reliable way to know when a Snow Emergency has been declared and when parking on posted snow routes is prohibited.
Snow emergencies are declared when the area is expected to receive ice and/or hazardous volumes of snow. Parking is prohibited on Posted Snow Routes when a snow emergency is declared to help Public Works crews ensure the highest traffic volume roads and hills receive priority service, which helps everyone get around when the snow starts to fly.
