Local Elections: Filing information for candidates

How to file as a candidate for November's City/School election in Davenport

(August 7, 2025) The City Clerk's Office is the filing office for Davenport Mayor and City Council candidates for the 2025 Regular City/School Election. Candidate filing begins Monday, August 11, 2025 and closes at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2025. Prospective candidates can visit Davenport City Hall (226 W. 4th St.) to get started. 

If needed, the City Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. The Regular City/School Election will be  on November 4, 2025. 

Tips and reminders:

  • Review the Candidate's Guide for cities with primary election provisions from the Iowa Secretary of State.
  • Turn packets in early to allow time to address any concerns.
  • Before collecting signatures, complete the top portion of the nomination petition and make copies so all petition page candidate headings are identical. (Example)
  • Obtain more signatures than required. The address line must include an apartment or unit number if applicable.
  • Do not sign the affidavit of candidacy until you are in the presence of a notary with a valid, government-issued photo ID (state-issued driver license, state-issued identification card, U.S. passport, or U.S. military ID). (Example)
