This Just In

• Eastern Ave Bridge Update. If you’ve been near Eastern Ave at Duck Creek lately, you’ve probably noticed things look very different. The old bridge is now fully removed, the new structure is in place, and we’re moving into the phase that connects everything: tying the bridge back into the road and reshaping the area around and under it. 
  
  Because the new bridge is 2 feet higher to prevent inundation during flash flood events and accommodate the rerouted recreational trail beneath it, crews will be building up and grading a slope on each side to match the new bridge height. To make all of that happen, we’ll be bringing in more than 900 tons of dirt. So, if you see lots of trucks hauling material in and out, that’s exactly what’s going on.
  
  The good news: this multi-benefit bridge project remains right on schedule for completion in November.

• Watch for nighttime lane reductions and changing traffic control on westbound Kimberly Rd between the I-74 exit and Elmore Ave the week of September 14. The Iowa DOT will be doing some full depth patching and extending the turn lane onto Elmore Ave. 

• Eastbound 11th St will be closed between Hildreth and Mound starting September 16, for concrete repairs. Work is estimated to be completed by September 30.

• W Central Park is closed between Harrison and Ripley through September 18, for a lead water service replacement.  

• Marquette will be closed between 16th and 17th Streets through September 17, for water main repairs by Iowa American Water Company. 

• Iowa American Water Company has various water main, hydrant work, and temporary winter patch replacements happening across the city including 2nd and Main, 14th and Sturdevant, Garfield and Northlawn, 4th and Warren, Garfield and Washington Ln, Rockingham and S Clark, Lombard and Madison, 15th and Wilkes, LeClaire and Central Park, and Central Park and Harrison.

• 08.06.26 | More road improvements are coming to Division St starting August 10! Initially construction will close all but one southbound lane of travel between 9th and 12th Streets. Access to the Putnam Museum and Fejervary Park and Aquatic Center will be maintained from 12th Street. Find out more at this link. 

• 05.01.26 | The Duck Creek Recreational Trail crossing over Eastern Avenue will shift beginning Wednesday, May 6, for full reconstruction of the bridge. The crossing will use the entrance to Eastern Ave Park. 

  While the work is ongoing, you can get to the park from the north, and trail access is marked.
  

  When work is complete, the new bridge will shift the trail crossing under the bridge. Find details at this link.

Contractors, or their designee, must submit an application to close a road or reduce travel lanes in the right-of-way at least three business days in advance of the closure unless emergency conditions exist.  Work cannot commence until the application is approved.
